A Zimbabwean headmaster, four of his teaching staff and a cook may soon be behind bars after they were arraigned for leaking and selling ordinary level examination papers.
Student Pulse gathered that Clever Chimuka, headmaster atWhata Secondary School in Lower Gweru, Zimbabwe, his deputy Thulani Nkomo, three teachers Praise Dube, Bismarck Gumbo and Brighton Tamboona and a cook at Mkoba Teachers College, Shepherd Munjanja, were accused of criminal abuse of office and leaking the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) in November.
According to the allegations levelled against them, Chimuka and Nkomo opened sealed envelopes of three exam papers and gave them to Dube, a teacher at Presbyterian Private Collegein Gweru.
They also allegedly sold handwritten copies to students while Dube gave some copies of the papers to Mujana, the cook.
Mujana in turn sold copies at $40 (about N7,300) to student who were sitting for O-level Mathematics at the college.
They were however exposed after the authorities at Mkoba Teachers' College were alerted about the leak.
Sunday Times reports that Mujanja, Gunbo and Tamboona, part of a group of student teachers supposed to sit for the O-level Mathematics exam under Government’s bridging programme for teachers without Maths, were arrested with exhibits.
Their confessions led to the arrest of Chimika, Nkomo and Dube who were found with copies of the leaked examination papers.
During the November appearance, the Magistrate, Mr Tendai Madanhire, granted all the suspects bail in the sum of $100 bail each.
But they will reappear before the court on the 7th of January.
